Community comes together to make a difference
The generosity of the local Douglas Shire has once again been displayed in spades as the community came together to celebrate Australia's Biggest Morning Tea 2024 hosted by the team at LJ Hooker Port Douglas.
New event partner, Chilli's Pizza & Trattoria, provided the perfect venue that was enjoyed by the more than 50 people who attended to catch up, share morning tea and raise vital funds for those impacted by cancer.
The tasty contributions from a range of local restaurants, cafes, bakeries, business owners and individuals ensured everyone enjoyed a delicious morning tea complemented by a range of refreshments.
Similarly, the long list of amazing businesses and individuals who donated prizes for the raffles and auction all contributed to the LJ Hooker team not only achieving but exceeding their goal of $8000. At the time of writing, $8010 had been raised!
Event coordinator Annie Mitchell said she was overwhelmed by the community's generosity of spirit.
"From the donations of our amazing business owners to our guests on the day and everyone who bought a raffle ticket, bid at our auction, or contributed to our fundraising page, it was wonderful to see the community come together and help us achieve our target," she said.
"Statistics suggest one in two Australians are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85. We want to help change that and, thanks to the generosity of our community, we are 8010 steps closer to realising the dream of a cancer free future."
Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is a nationwide community event that raises vital funds for those impacted by cancer.
